Children across Scotland returned to school last week, with many starting their education journey for the first time. But pictures shared by one mum of her wee girl's first day last year will be etched in our memories forever.Stacey McCullagh shared the hilarious snaps of her daughter Lyla, four, before and after her first day at St Mark's Primary in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire last August.

Saying she was "emotional but happy" to see her youngster off to school, Stacey had made sure Lyla was looking as smart as possible.

But the day appeared to be too much for Lyla as she looked utterly drained after returning home. 40-year-old Stacey was left in fits of laughter when she came home in the afternoon to find her daughter conked out on the doorstep, resting on the lap of her older sister. In the photos, which were shared with the Record, Lyla is pictured in the morning looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, dressed immaculately in her new uniform and ready to take on the day.But at the end of the day, the youngster can be seen fast asleep with her mouth wide open and looking dishevelled with her bag tossed to the side as she snoozed on her grinning sister's lap.

Stacey told the Record: "I felt a bit of mixed emotions because Lyla is my youngest and so it's the last time I'll get to do the first day of primary school."I was excited for her to go in, though, because she hadn't stopped talking about it all summer.
