Scots mum 'left with no heating' over previous tenant's £29 debt

An Edinburgh mum claims she's been 'left with no heating' over a previous tenant's £29 debt. Widower Sarah Thomson said her local authority failed to pay the former resident's bill forcing her gas supply to be cut off.Sarah, 38, moved into her new home in Lasswade a few months ago before she realised there was no heating but when she tried to have it reinstated she was told there was still £29 outstanding on the account.

She claims she asked Midlothian council to deal with the debt and a support worker advised her to take out a crisis loan to pay it off herself.Speaking to Edinburgh Live, she said: “They refused to take responsibility and expected me to go into debt myself over an unpaid bill that had nothing to do with me.
