Scots mum left in coma in Tenerife after 'freak accident' on family holiday

The mum of a Hibs star has been left in an induced coma after fracturing her skull in Tenerife. Julie McLaren, from Dalkeith in Midlothian, was on a family holiday in the Canary Islands when she fell down a flight of stairs at her hotel.

The mum, 57, suffered two skull fractures and two bleeds on her brain.She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital on the Canary Island, where medics have described her condition as critical.Julie's daughter Siobhan Hunter, who plays for Hibs in the Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) is behind fundraising efforts alongside sister Georgi, to help family members stay on the island with her as she undergoes treatment.Without funds, her family say they cannot afford to stay by her bedside.Julie's son-in-law, Jayden, told our sister title, Edinburgh Live: "My family are on holiday and had a freak accident as my mother-in-law fell in her hotel stairs.
