A mum has been left flabbergasted after she found a 135-year-old time capsule underneath the floorboards in her home. Eilidh Stimpson, from Edinburgh, could hardly believe her eyes when she discovered a delicately inscribed message on the ancient note, which had been rolled up inside an empty whisky bottle and hidden away under the floor.

The Victorian-era bottle was discovered earlier this week by her plumber, Peter Allan, who just happened to find it in a hole he cut in the floor.

The whimsical note had been stashed on October 6, 1887, and had lain undisturbed since. By pure chance, Peter happened upon the bottle as he carried out work to shift a radiator around in Eilidh's Morningside flat.

said the find was "pretty cool."Mum-of-two and GP Eilidhtold our sister site Edinburgh Live: "We were meant to be moving a radiator from one side of the wall to the other. "The plumber came and started cutting a hole and said it was going to be a bit of a nightmare as there was a floor on top of a floor.
