Scots hospitals Covid latest as 11,360 new cases confirmed in Public Health Scotland report

Another 11,360 Covid cases have been diagnosed in Scotland within the last 24 hours as the Omicron wave continues to sweep across the nation.Figures have been published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) this afternoon as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing.Nationally, there are 1,267 patients with the disease being treated in hospital which is up 44 from yesterday's reported figure.

There are currently 43 people being treated in ICUs. The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by 527 to 71,515.Of the new cases reported, 241 were in North Ayrshire, 185 attributed to East Ayrshire and 101 in South Ayrshire.A total of 1,010,660 positive tests have now been recorded from 4.043 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Inverclyde has the highest rate in the country – at 2,726.4 as of Wednesday, January 5.South Lanarkshire has the second-highest infection rate at 2,686.9 while North Lanarkshire is third with 2,680.4.
