Scots former Post Office sub-postmaster still waiting for justice over Horizon scandal

A former Clackmannanshire sub postmaster caught up in the Horizon Post Office software scandal is hoping the spotlight shone on the issue in recent weeks will see justice done.Between 2000 and 2014, the Post Office wrongly prosecuted over 700 branch managers across the UK – an average of one a week – based on information from software developed by Fujitsu.Last week the UK government announced emergency laws to “swiftly exonerate and compensate victims” and First Minister Humza Yousaf confirmed victims in Scotland would also be cleared.

It followed public outcry following the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office which highlighted the suffering and injustice experienced by victims of the scandal.Robert Thomson, former sub postmaster of Cambus Post Office, had been convicted of embezzling money in the mid 2000s, and is one of many Scottish postmasters who have yet to have their convictions overturned.

He had been sentenced to 150 hours’ community service.His case is currently going through the Scottish appeal courts and is set to call later this month.He said: “I just hope that this is the start of us getting justice as well as getting some form of our lives back.“There are still many questions that need answered: where is the money that the Post Office took from us?
