A farmer who had appeared in a BBC series died after he was crushed by one of his cows, a sheriff has ruled. Derek Roan, 71, was working on his family-run Barnbarroch Farm, near Dalbeattie, Dumfriesshire, when the horror incident took place.
He was trying to move a half-ton black Galloway beef cow and calf back with the main herd on the farm.Derek – who starred in This Farming Life – was found by his son Stuart.He was rushed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary but passed away from “severe and extensive” injuries in June last year.Sheriff Joanna McDonald ruled at a fatal accident inquiry in Dumfries that his death was unavoidable.
