A new centre committed to finding a cure for those suffering from brain tumours has opened in Edinburgh. The facility is a result of a unique collaboration between leading cancer charities Brain Tumour Research and Beatson Cancer Charity, and will see researchers based at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow working together with the aim of identifying the most promising new treatments for glioblastoma – a deadly brain cancer with an average prognosis of as little as 12 months – and getting patients into clinical trials.Brain Tumour Research and Beatson Cancer Charity are investing £2.4 million in the Centre over the next five years.
More than half that sum has been raised and a public appeal is ongoing.Brain tumours kill more people under the age of 40 than any other cancer every year, and affects the lives of thousands of people across Scotland and the rest of the UK.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if you're on mobile, select 'Join Community' and you're in!If you're on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click 'Join Community'.We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
