A Scots couple who had to drive from London to Edinburgh after their flight was cancelled have been denied compensation.Denis Harley and wife Ruth hired a car for the 400-mile journey after learning their easyJet flight wouldn’t be flying. The pair said there were no seats on alternative flights after their short trip down south.Since Ruth had a medical appointment the next day, the pair weren’t able to stay in a hotel overnight. After options for an overnight bus and rail travel were exhausted, Denis was left with no choice but to drive six hours to Edinburgh through the night.Denis has repeatedly tried to claim reimbursement for the £350 car hire, but easyJet has denied them this multiple times as there was a flight within 24 hours of their cancellation.Denis, 53, said: “It’s just absolute nonsense.
They’re just so non-facing and it’s all generic emails and very blank responses. It’s just not good enough really.“They just duck and dive and need to take responsibility for the issues they create here as customers are non-fault and they’re getting let down.
We’re out of pocket now as we had to pay out because of their failures.“We’re just looking for what we paid out and reimbursed.
They were happy to pay for a hotel, meal and taxi back and forth but weren’t prepared to say if you want to go up the road just now we’ll transfer that money to you.“I’m like a dog with a bone so I’ve also emailed Johan Lundgren, the CEO of easyJet and have more concise replies from his departments from any other.
