A Stirling councillor has admitted downloading indecent material involving children. Ewan Dillon, 21, appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to a single charge under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 which bans the “taking or making of any indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph” of children - the offence commonly known as downloading.The crime took place between October 18, 2021 and September 29, 2022, during part of which time he was a sitting Labour councillor.Stirling Council yesterday confirmed Dillon resigned as a Dunblane and Bridge of Allan independent councillor on the same day as his plea.At a previous court appearance in March, where he pleaded not guilty, solicitor-advocate George Pollock, for Dillon, said “the crux of the matter” was how the images in question “ended up on the computer”.He said: “The case will turn on the evidence of the Crown expert, supplemented by evidence from Mr Dillon.”However, Dillon, a former Dunblane High pupil and member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, has now admitted his guilt and sentencing was deferred until July 3 for reports.

Yesterday, a Stirling Labour spokesperson said: “We are horrified and utterly condemn the behaviour and actions of Ewan Dillon.“Ewan Dillon has not been a member of the Labour Party since October 2022.”Stirling SNP group also commented: “We are horrified and saddened to see a sitting Stirling councillor admit guilt to such a heinous crime.“Dunblane and Bridge of Allan have been denied effective democratic representation.
