Scots cops probe shocking moment referee headbutts fan during amateur match

This is the shocking moment a Scottish referee headbutted a supporter during an amateur match. The game was called off and police are now probing the incident, which saw the referee charging at a 21-year-old man after words were exchanged.

A clip which was posted on the Twitter account of charity Refereesupportuk, shows how other spectators were forced to pull the referee away as trouble flared.

The clash took place on Saturday afternoon, February 26, as side Stanley Athletic, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, played Port Glasgow United in Renfrew, near Glasgow.

Stanley Athletic revealed on Twitter that the match had been called off due to the incident.In a post, which has since been deleted, they wrote: "Stanley Athletic 6-2 Port Glasgow United."Match abandoned in 92nd minute."We (just about) made it three wins in a row this morning as we were on our way to a big win over Port Glasgow, before the match was abandoned in the 92nd minute."Officers from Police Scotland confirmed to the Daily Record they were looking into the incident.
