The original Scots member of The Beatles fails to feature in a new film about the Fab Four because filmmakers thought his presence would confuse viewers.Midas Man, which is being streamed on Amazon Prime, tells the story of discovery of the Fab Four by manager Brian Epstein when they were still unknown.Epstein, who ran a record store in Liverpool, first saw The Beatles at the Cavern in November 1961 and offered to manage the band.In the summer of 1960, the band's unofficial manager Allan Williams offered Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Edinburgh-born Sutcliffe a residency in Hamburg where he had already sent fellow Liverpool band Derry and the Seniors.On August 15, 1960 the band hired Pete Best as drummer and the next day they left for Germany.The many hours performing at the Indra venue and later the Kaiserkeller helped the band to hone their performance skills.But Edinburgh-born Sutcliffe later fell in love with Astrid Kirchherr, a young German photographer.He left The Beatles to remain with her in Germany and intended to concentrate on his art studies but died of a brain haemorrhage after collapsing in art class in Hamburg in April 1962.
He was aged just 21. Actor Blake Richardson, who plays Paul McCartney in the film, said: “Stuart isn’t in the film. He was around but he left and when Brian went to meet them he was on his way out and it was decided it would have confused the viewers even more because a lot of people don't know the story of drummer Pete Best.“I watched the film with my grandma and she was like, ‘Oh, Ringo looks weird’.
I was like, ‘No, just wait, that's not Ringo.” He added: “Everyone's got an opinion. The Beatles connected to people in so many different ways, you know.
