Scots 9/11 victim's chilling chat about landing job at Twin Towers still haunts best pal

St Andrews university pals turned to the truck bomb at the North Tower a year before that had killed six, wounded 1000 and forced 50,000 to evacuate.

The explosion, which saw smoke and flames spread upward into the buildings, had created a hole 200ft by 100ft, several stories deep.

Joyce, from Glasgow, said: “Where we were sitting you could still see traces of the attack, for example the damage to the pavements right outside the towers hadn’t been fixed. “While we were discussing it Gavin gazed up at the Twin Towers then turned to me and said ‘Can you believe that some people working inside there actually walked down more than 80 stairs to get out?’”In a horrible twist of fate, Gavin, then a computer consultant, would go on to work.
