Scotland may have to brace for more freezing wintry conditions as snow maps have predicted sub-zero temperatures at the end of the month.Weather maps from WXCharts have forecasted temperatures as low as -6.8C in northern Scotland at the end of this week.
The maps show some snow arriving in northern parts of the country on April 1, potentially bringing some unseasonable winter weather going into next month.NetWeather's Senior Forecaster Nick Finnis said the UK should expect a mild period of weather followed by a cold end to the month, reports The Mirror.As reported by the Express, the forecaster stated: "Unlike recently, it looks to be mostly mild over the next 10 days, with temperatures above average."However, he added that polar air will "never be too far away" in parts of northern Scotland, and under the right conditions this air could spread downwards.Mr Finnis continued: "If this cold air does move south, it will mean areas of rain moving in off the Atlantic will turn to snow over the higher ground of Scotland, with a risk of frost and ice when skies clear."At the end of the month, he said the UK "could see colder polar air return from the north in the last five days of the month, perhaps cold enough to bring some wintriness in precipitation in the north, with a return of overnight frosts widely, though any snow mostly confined to higher ground in the north."The Met Office also warns that the end of this month and the beginning of next could see an intense cold-patch, with a report for the end of March stating that a "quick change" in conditions could be on the way.
