Schools to close amid warnings of powerful wind and rain

There's been a number of school closures amid flooding and heavy rains across the UK this week. Wales woke up to 11 flood alerts on Monday morning, following heavy overnight rain and a school in Pembrokeshire announced its closure due to a fallen tree nearby, with power cuts also reported in west Wales.The wind warning indicates that strong winds may cause disruption across southwest England and Wales as well.

Pembrokeshire Council revealed they received 100 calls on Sunday afternoon, with their teams dealing with 40 fallen trees and working into the early hours of Monday to clear roads.

Sunday saw winds strengthen from west to east, with gusts reaching 50-55mph.The wind warning covered areas including Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea and Vale of Glamorgan.The rain warning included areas such as Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, and Vale of Glamorgan, reports Wales Online.

Natural Resources Wales has issued 11 flood alerts, primarily in the south and west. Earlier this month, it was reported that The weather, it would seem, is about to take a nasty turn - as the latest weather maps showed the UK "barely visible" under a massive 650-mile storm set to cause chaos.
