Students who were told by their head of sixth form not to take time off because of their periods have accused her of a "lack of compassion".
Jackie Watson sent an email to all Year 12 students at Oxford Spires Academy in Cowley, Oxford, to say that being on a period is not a valuable excuse for failing to attend class.
The email told students that "learning to deal with monthly inconvenience is all part of being a woman" while reminding them that heat packets and painkillers are available for those who need.
However, students at the school feel the email was unfair and that is shouldn't have been sent to boys too as it risks making them "unsympathetic".
