It comes as a bill passed its third and final reading in the House of Lords on Wednesday afternoon and is due to be given Royal Assent tomorrow.
The Education (Guidance about Costs of School Uniforms) Bill requires the government to publish legally binding guidance requiring school authorities to consider costs when setting school uniform policies.
The guidance, which the government aims to issue to schools in the autumn, is expected to insist the number of branded items is kept to a minimum, with a fair and open tendering
