There may still be more than four months still to go until Christmas but we’ll be soon be stuffed up with mince pies and rolling into the new year before we know it.

One of the most in-demand things for families to enjoy around the festive period is undoubtedly the Santa steam train. With spots limited, it’s a popular event as the big day inches closer and closer.

Run by East Lancashire Railway (ELR), the ‘Santa Specials’ rides allow people to board a steam train from Bury Bolton Street Station and travel through the enchanted Irwell Valley as part of a magical 80-minute journey where you’ll also get to meet the big man himself (that’s Santa, obviously). There will be a traditional brass band on board as grown-ups indulge in a cheeky mince pie and festive tipple.

Younger guests will get to enjoy some chocolate treats, a drink and an activity pack. The experience ventures further beyond just a train ride too, with guests invited to explore a ‘winter wonderland’ at the Bury station before their journey to Rawtenstall and back.
