An inaugural 'Santa Dash' organised by Ayr sporting clubs has helped to raise thousands of pounds for a string of charities.Ayr Rugby Club, Ayr United and Ayr Cricket Club staged the event just prior to Christmas, encouraging members of their fanbase and the wider community to take part in a 5k run between Millbrae and Somerset Park.
Despite biblical rain, the event was a great success with over 200 Santas making the treacherous journey and raising vital cash for good causes.
Headline charities were The Ayrshire Hospice, Ayrshire Cancer Support and Whiteleys Retreat who benefited from a share of the entry money, totalling £900.
Thanks went to the event sponsor Shoot Soccer plus the many volunteers who marshalled the road crossings in terrible weather.
