An Upper Nithsdale nursery received a glowing report after a surprise visit from officials. The Care Inspectorate called at Sanquhar Nursery on May 9 and 10 with an unannounced visit.

And its “motivated staff” members were praised for providing “warm, nurturing care” and making children feel “happy, secure and safe”.

Nursery manager Ashley Daly, 36, said: “We’re really proud our hard work in the last year has been recognised. We’ve got a really supportive network between staff, parents and the children, and great relationships with the community.” The report stated staff promoted a positive team ethos and were respectful in their interactions with each other and the children.

It also highlighted “a strong sense of community” which helped children to feel a sense of belonging and to feel valued. Mrs Daly, who has previously worked across the private sector in Glasgow and Ayrshire, added: “I’m really excited to see the positive changes we can make in the future.” Steve Beattie, Sanquhar Primary headteacher said: “We’re extremely proud of all the nursery’s hard work. “We’ve a great relationship between our ELC and primary school and I’m looking forward to welcoming our nursery children into P1 after the summer holidays. “ The Care Inspectorate spoke with the families of 24 children and 11 staff members within the nursery.
