The Reds bought Sancho from the Bundesliga club in 2021 for a fee of £73m. At the time, the 23-year-old was heralded as a good buy for the club having impressed at Dortmund since making the switch from Manchester City.
However, Sancho never properly settled in the red half of Manchester. During the 2022/23 season, the winger spent time out of the playing squad for personal reasons and when he returned he seemed rejuvenated.
Erik ten Hag experimented in pre-season with playing Sancho centrally but we never witnessed whether this tactic could work for the entirety of the campaign after a public fallout in September.
