Salute Your Shorts actor Kirk Baily has died at age 59 following a battle with lung cancer.Baily's family told TMZ the actor passed from the illness over the weekend, just six months following his diagnosis.Friends of the actor announced his passing on social media, according to Deadline.

He died on February 28, the site adds.Baily famously played camp counselor Kevin 'Ug' Lee in the Nickelodeon hit Salute Your Shorts from 1991 to 1992, and also had roles in 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain and The Sixth Man.

Based on creator Steve Slavkin's 1986 book Salute Your Shorts: Life at Summer Camp, the sitcom aired on Nickelodeon for over a year and followed the antics of teenage campers and their counselor at the fictional Camp Anawanna.Baily also had credits in the wildly popular TV shows Melrose Place, Felicity and NYPD Blue.
