The University of Salford is to suspend all teaching except for students in their final year to help delay the spread of coronavirus.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the city yesterday. The parent of a child at Lewis Street Primary in Eccles has the virus and is self-isolating at home.

That triggered the closure of three schools - Lewis Street, Christchurch Primary in Eccles, and Lark Hill Primary in Langworthy.

All three have closed until Monday for a deep clean to carried out. The University has about 20,000 students and 3,000 staff based at a main campus on The Crescent and others at Media City, Salford Quays, and Adelphi Street, Salford.
