A police search for 'guns and grenades' that saw residents asked to leave their homes in Salford has come to an end. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it received intelligence regarding possible 'weapons' on Duchy Road playing fields, near the Irlams o' th' Height area, of the city yesterday evening (Friday).
A large cordon was put in place around the fields, which also border Stanhope Road. The force said that 'as a precautionary measure, some residents within the area are being spoken to by officers about the possibility of moving to temporary accommodation.' It's not clear how many properties were advised to evacuate. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "A search of playing field on Stanhope Road, Salford, has now been stood down, following reports of firearms and grenades being located in the area. "No items were recovered during the search and the scene is now closing.
