Moor Lane club had their first ever season playing in the EFL last season after winning promotion to League Two, and finished 11th after the campaign was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic and decided on a points-per-game basis.

Over the summer, annual salary caps have been imposed in League One and League Two, with a limit of £2.5m for the former and £1.5m for the latter.
