Sainsbury's has come under fire from shoppers over the description of one of its new festive snacks. The retailer is selling breadcrumb coated chicken in the shape of gingerbread men, but has described them as 'gingerbread shaped people'.

And the move hasn't gone down too well, with the supermarket told to 'stop with the woke'. Responding to a photo of the packet on a Facebook page for new foodie finds, hundreds of people have shared their view on the naming of the product, many of them criticising the retailer's choice of words. Others said they could see no issue with the description, including one man, who said: "Gotta love people throwing their toys out their prams because of a word change." And some other shoppers said the real issue is why chicken shapes are being referred to as gingerbread in the first place. "So - it says gingerbread shaped people, should it not say gingerbread people shaped chicken (or whatever it's made of) this makes it seem as though it is made of people," said one.

While another added: "So gingerbread isn't a shape...and they're not actually gingerbread flavour...they're chicken. Therefore they're people shaped chicken." Sainsbury's describes the snack as 'chicken seasoned, formed and shaped, coated in golden breadcrumbs with tomato ketchup for decorating' so there's definitely no mention of any gingerbread in there.
