Kiena Dawes has been labelled "a very poorly girl" by the mother of the man who subjected her to years of domestic abuse. Ryan Wellings, 30, was jailed for six and a half years at Preston Crown Court, on January 16, following the death of his former partner.

Ms Dawes left a suicide note calling him a "monster", which she left with a friend alongside with their their nine-month-old daughter, before she then took her own life on July 22, 2022.

Wellings was convicted of assault and coercive and controlling behaviour over a two-year period, but cleared of manslaughter by the jury, after a six-week trial.

Judge Robert Altham, Honorary Recorder of Preston, told Wellings that he made Kiena feel worthless, blame herself for being assaulted, and told her that she was an "unfit mother".
