Ryan O’Neal’s son slams Emmys for leaving dad out of ‘In Memoriam’: ‘Sad and mad is a paralyzing combo’

from awards shows. On Monday night, the 2024 Emmys left several big stars out of the “In Memoriam” segment. The segment — which pays respect to actors, directors, producers, writers and TV personalities who died in the past year — honored Matthew Perry, Angela Lansbury, “Euphoria” star Angus Cloud, Norman Lear, Andre Braugher, Paul Reubens, Stephen “Twitch” Boss, “This Is Us” star Ron Cephas Jones, Leslie Jordan, Lance Reddick, Kirstie Alley and Treat Williams, among others.

As photos of the deceased stars played in a slideshow, Charlie Puth and the War and Treaty performed Puth’s 2015 hit song “See You Again” and the Rembrandts’ “Friends” theme song, “I’ll Be There for You,” as an additional tribute to Perry.

There were a lot of tragic losses this year, including several stars lost too soon — Cloud was only 25, Perry was 54, Reddick was 60, Braugher was 61 and Cephas Jones was 66.

However, the segment left several big names out. Ryan O’Neal, who died at age 82 in December, is a Hollywood heavy-hitter who was omitted. “Wasn’t watching #Emmys but someone let me know they left my dad out of the ‘in memoriam,’” his son, Patrick O’Neal, 56, posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Kind of wish I didn’t know right now but I would’ve found out.
