Star turn Ryan Gauld is now earning almost as much as Welsh superstar Gareth Bale in the MLS, after he smashed through the £2 million a year barrier, following the disclosure of the players' salaries.
Gauld admitted this week he's accepted being overlooked by Scotland boss Steve Clarke despite an impressive season at Vancouver Whitecaps.
And the latest MLS figures revealed that the former Dundee United and Sporting Lisbon forward earned $2.265 million, which converts to £2.01 million in the MLS's annualised average guaranteed compensation.
That figure includes a player's base salary and all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualised over the term of the player's contract and any marketing bonus and agent's fees, but doesn’t include performance bonuses since there’s no guarantee players will hit those bonuses.
