Rutherglen Glencairn will keep fighting for promotion, but hope is fading

Rutherglen Glencairn boss Joe Pryce admits his side are now outsiders in the West of Scotland First Division promotion race – but while there’s a glimmer of hope, they’ll keep fighting.However, Glencairn need favours from elsewhere, and Pryce admits they need every result to go their way, to have a realistic chance of grabbing one of the three promotion slots.Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Shotts left Glencairn fifth on 47 points with two remaining fixtures, and midweek fixtures moved John McKeown's side into third, five points above Rutherglen, and with a game in hand.McKeown’s Shotts side are also one of the most consistent in the league, and continuation of that form could see them push Johnstone Burgh down to third, whom Glencairn can't catch, having already secured their promotion slot.Glencairn host Johnstone Burgh on Saturday, while Shotts visit Blantyre Vics.Pryce said: “It leaves us in a really difficult position, in terms of promotion.

We always thought we would need to win the remainder of our games to give ourselves a chance, so we’re real outsiders, now.“It’s still arithmetically possible, but every single result is going to have to go our way for that to happen, so we’ll just look to finish with as many points as we possibly can, as high up the league as we can, and try to finish the season properly.“We started off really well, obviously tailed off between January and March, so we’re looking to finish off the season on a high.“We’ve got a big game this Saturday with Johnstone Burgh coming.
