Rutherglen Glencairn’s under-18s are celebrating silverware success after their players made amends for a League Cup final loss two years ago.The club were crowned U18 Plate Final champions on Sunday after a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Renfrew, which was delivered by a last-gasp penalty from Charlie Slaven.Glens had fallen 2-0 down as half-time approached, but Frankie Walls Jnr handed them a lifeline when he fired the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.Early in the second half, Glens – managed by Frankie Walls Snr – pulled level when they were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box, and Slaven slotted home the equaliser from 12 yards. The momentum looked to be in the Glens’ favour but a defensive error allowed Renfrew to regain the lead. With 15 minutes remaining, Renfrew failed to clear the lines and the ball fell to skipper Glory Katongo, who pounced to stroke the ball into the net and level things up at 3-3.Just as the game looked set to go to penalties, it was a spot-kick two minutes from time that would decide the destination of the trophy.Striker Tony Greenan raced through on goal and was brought down by a Renfrew defender.
