It was rumoured that their slots were taken over to try to add more representation to the ITV lineup. Their removal caused outrage from viewers who called for the veteran presenters to return to the show.
The married couple previously presented This Morning every Friday and would fill in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during the holidays.
While Dermot and Alison took over the Friday shifts, Ruth confirmed that she and her husband will be back on telly for the summer.
