In one of Netflix‘s quickest renewals for a first-year series, the streamer has picked up comedy Running Point for a second season just a week after its release.
The news comes a week after the show, starring Kate Hudson, was released Feb. 27, just as Netflix canceled drama The Recruitafter two seasons.
In its debut weekend, Running Point scored 9.3 million views and ranked in the Top 10 across 83 countries. “We are so thrilled to be able to deliver a Season 2 of Running Point to the fans of the show,” co-creator/executive producer Mindy Kaling told Tudum. “We still cannot believe the response from audiences – thank you to everyone who has watched!” In Running Point, inspired by the LA Lakers and its president Jeanie Buss, when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business.
Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.
