De Gea was handed the award shortly after United beat Fulham 2-1 in their final league game of the season, with himself and the rest of the squad enjoying some time with the Old Trafford crowd after a long and successful campaign.
There was no clean sheet on the day but 17 beforehand were more than anyone else in the league. Despite the award, it has been a tough season for the 32-year-old, who has made some high-profile errors and has often been criticised for his lack of quality in playing out from the back.
