Scottish Open winner Rory McIlroy APOLOGISED to Bob MacIntyre after ending the his hopes of becoming the first Scot to claim the title in 24 years.
MacIntyre was within touching distance of matching Colin Montgomerie’s home winner feat at Loch Lomond in 1999 at the Renaissance Club.
He pulled away from the rest of the pack with a series of birdies, and it was the 14th hole that saw the Oban native take a leap ahead of McIlroy in testing wind at the Scottish Open.
The 26-year-old looked set for glory but McIlroy kept pace and knocked in a birdie to set up a grandstand finish in North Berwick.
