Rod Stewart gifts cash to Scots family after little girl watched mum go hungry in cost of living crisis

Sir Rod Stewart has helped to make a little girl’s dream come true after learning that she watches her mum go without food to feed her family.The legendary rocker said his 'heart broke' after reading the plight of schoolgirl Sophia McKenzie in the Daily Record.

He has now offered to donate £2500 to help Sophia's mum Heather Griffiths with her financial struggles.We previously told how Sophia, 10, had been asked to write about her hopes for the future as part of a task at school.The Motherwell youngster penned a note on the how the cost of living crisis is affecting her family, who have had to rely on food banks.Sophia wrote: "I have a dream that one day we will live in a world where the cost of living crisis stops and everything is free and nobody struggles with not being able to eat."It came after she noticed that her mum often skips meals to ensure her four children have enough food.Sir Rod said: "When I read this story in the Record and saw the letter Heather's daughter wrote, it broke my heart."I simply had to find a way to help."Single-mum Heather has been left overwhelmed by Sir Rod's kind gesture.She said: “This is pretty much Sophia’s dream coming true because she worries about us struggling every single day."I told her what Mr Stewart did and it has completely thrown her.

We obviously never expected anything like this to happen.“Sophia never asks for anything that she needs or wants because she doesn’t want me to be stressed out.

So it is going to be amazing to see her not have to worry anymore."I’m on my own with four kids and this is going to help us in so many ways.
