Rod Stewart has revealed he lied to get out of paying big phone bills which he ran up listening to Scotland games.The thrifty rocker told how he would call his father Robert in  Scotland so he could hear commentary of the national team’s matches during the 70s.The singer would often struggle to find somewhere showing  them while he was touring the world – and his 90-minute international calls resulted in him being charged hundreds of pounds by hotels.Sir Rod said: “To get to the 1974 World Cup in Germany, we had to beat Czechoslovakia and this was another game I didn’t see, because I was working with the Faces, but I remember it like it was yesterday.“I used to phone up and my dad would put the phone by the television and I would listen for.
