Rochdale man died after falling into water while paddleboarding, inquest hears

A Rochdale man died after falling into Ullswater while paddleboarding, an inquest has heard. Search teams were deployed after 26-year-old Olumide Favour Giwa was reported to have got into difficulties in the water at around 10pm on Sunday, August 7.

The location given was in the vicinity of Aira Point, close to the Ullswater 'Steamers' landing pier. A friend was reported to have contacted the emergency services to raise the alarm.

Those involved in the four-day search included the coastguard, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Maryport Inshore Rescue and members of both Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team and the North West Underwater Search Team.

Sonar equipment and aircraft - to sweep the area - were used during the operation, while the public were asked to avoid the area as the search was carried out.
