Trainspotting’s Robert Carlyle has revealed he’s about to start filming his return to the role that made him a star – and he can’t wait. The 62-year-old said getting to play psycho Francis Begbie again for TV series The Blade Artist means he’s already dusting off the unforgettable madman’s distinctive black bomber jacket.

And Carlyle, who reprised ‘Franco’ for the second Trainspotting movie T2 six years ago, told how he will be forever thankful to the career-defining character that changed his life.Speaking after accepting the Lifetime Achievement honour at last night’s Scotland’s Champions Awards, Robert said: “It should be great.

The Blade Artist is Begbie’s story and will be released as a six-part TV piece.“We’re currently working on the scripts, which are being written by Irvine Welsh and Jenni Fagan, and hope to start shooting sometime next year.“Some of Begbie’s original clothes from the first Trainspotting film will be seen again in The Blade Artist.

I held on to his signature black Harrington jacket, which I’m sure will get another outing.“Funnily enough, the bucket hat Begbie wears in T2 belonged to my younger son, so I’ve kept that too.”The Blade Artist will see Begbie enjoying life in California as a world-famous painter after being released from prison but forced back to Edinburgh after the murder of his son.
