The pedestrian, in his sixties, is understood to have suffered 'minor' injuries in the incident at around 8.41am on Tuesday morning.
He has been taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. The incident between the bus station and the A627 Clark Way caused queues on the A57 Manchester Road after the road was closed in both directions.
A spokesman from the North West Ambulance Service confirmed the incident and said a man was being treated for minor injuries, while Greater Manchester Police said an incident had taken place but could not provide further details.
