An up-and-coming DJ from rural Scotland has been hand-selected by some of the UK’s dance music talent to play TRNSMT this summer.Kirsty Fraser, known as Kooshty, started her DJ career just two years ago after leaving school.
The 21-year-old, a music lover from a young age, was given a pair of second-hand decks to practice and play to friends in her small town in Stirling.Now, Kirsty has 50 days to get ready to perform live thousands of fans on the Boogie Bar stage at Scotland’s biggest music festival.Kooshty, originally from Callender but now based in Glasgow, won TRNSMT’s first-ever DJ competition, which called on the next generation of DJ talent to submit their mixes to win a set on the iconic Boogie Bar stage, playing to thousands of fans on Saturday 8th July.More than 150 budding DJs and producers from across the UK submitted mixes, which were judged by some of the country’s biggest DJs, including LF System, Arielle Free, Meg McHugh and Hayley Zalassi.Kooshty said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to have won a slot on the Boogie Bar.
I only started DJing a few years ago and to think that those amazing judges have listened to my mix and that I’ll be playing to thousands of music fans at Scotland’s biggest festival in a few weeks is amazing.
I feel so lucky and it’s a real dream come true.“TRNSMT always gets the best weather, so people can expect some sunny summer tunes!
