Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor, resigned tonight, shortly after his cabinet colleague, Health Secretary Sajid Javid, also announced his resignation.
The developments continue to pile the pressure on under-fire Boris Johnson. Mr Sunak wrote on Twitter: "The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously.
I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning." He posted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson in full on Twitter.
In it, he suggested the Government was not being “conducted properly, competently and seriously”, as he told Boris Johnson that “our approaches are fundamentally too different”.
