Rio Ferdinand has recalled the moment he knew his career was over in football - and it was all because of Peter Crouch. The former England centre-back will go down in history as one of the best defenders the Premier League has ever seen.

An ever-present for Sir Alex Ferguson, Ferdinand won an array of trophies at Manchester United. He became the world's most expensive defender when he left Leeds United in 2002 for just under £30m.

The London-born star would go on to win six Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League over a 12-year period at Old Trafford.
