EXCLUSIVE: Richard Schwartz has joined Alfonso Cuaron‘s Esperanto Filmoj as Head of Television. The Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Y Tu Mama Tambien, Gravity and Roma has leaned into television, and Schwartz will spearhead development and marketing efforts for the slate.

This comes as the company prepares to launch Cuarón’s highly anticipated Apple TV+ series disclaimer, the miniseries thriller that stars Cate Blanchett and debuts October 11.

Schwartz spent over two decades working in film and television for artists including Ben Stiller, Conan O’Brien, Michael J. Fox and David Lynch, under whom Schwartz began his career working on the auteur’s landmark Mulholland Drive and The Straight Story.  “We could not be more thrilled to have Richie at the helm of Esperanto’s TV operations,” Cuarón said in a statement to Deadline. “His breadth of experience is a wonderful asset, and I am beyond eager to see the exciting work to come from our collaboration.” Most recently, Schwartz oversaw the film and television development slate at Stiller’s Red Hour Films, serving as an Executive Producer on the forthcoming second season of Apple TV+’s Severance.

Prior to Red Hour, Schwartz partnered with writer/director Will Gluck to help launch his Sony-based company Olive Bridge Entertainment, and shepherded projects including the Disney+ musical docuseries Encore and Hulu satire Woke. “The ultimate dream for any creative producer is to work on behalf of their favorite artist,” says Schwartz, “Alfonso Cuarón stands as one of the most inventive and original filmmakers of a generation.
