Richard E Grant reveals his mother has died as he reflects on complicated relationship

Actor Richard E Grant has revealed that his mother, Leonne, has tragically died as he shared a lengthy video to Twitter where he reflected on their “complicated" relationship.

In the candid video posted to social media, Richard is seen chatting to the camera as he revealed he found out that his 93 year old mother died earlier on in the day.

He described his relationship with his mother and how different they both were as he said she “withheld her approval for anything” while he had “gone the opposite extreme” and being a “very tactile and loving father and husband”.The actor said: “We had an incredible complicated relationship, and she was somebody that for me anyway, emotionally withdrawn, withheld her approval of anything. “So nothing was ever quite good enough, but what that proved to be was a great motor for ambition and determination to try and prove yourself be the best you possible can, and ironically whatever she demanded she got.” Describing how he feels about her passing he said that he felt resignation but said he also feels “gratitude for having given me life”.

The 66 year old actor captioned his emotional video: “Complicated gratitude to my Mother, who died this morning at the age of 93, for giving me the Gift of Life.” Born in the Summer of 1957, Richard Grant Esterhuysen is the eldest son of Leonne and Henrik Esterhuysen.
