Food items commonly bought in supermarkets and restaurants could be subject to stricter restrictions, with stores facing up to £2,500 in fines if they repeatedly ignore the rules.
Restaurant chains such as Wetherspoon's, Nando's and Five Guys could be impacted if this proposed rule change takes effect. The Welsh Government is currently seeking feedback on strategies aimed at curbing the nation's obesity crisis.
The considered measures could result in a ban on free refills of sugar-laden drinks at all bars and eateries. The new rules could also limit supermarkets and convenience stores from providing 'buy-one-get-one-free' and other multi-buy deals.
Furthermore, it could cease the promotion of sugar-filled goodies at entrances, aisle ends, and checkouts of commercial outlets.
