Residents were told to keep their windows and doors shut as fire crews tackled a blaze at an industrial estate in Wardley on Monday night (March 4).

A number of fire engines were pictured in attendance after the flames broke out in a unit off Shield Drive, in Wardley, at around 8pm.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service issued a public message asking those living nearby to stay indoors due to the smoke plumes. READ MORE How one 'faulty valve' sparked a major incident in Trafford A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 8pm this evening (Monday 4 March) fire crews were called to reports of a fire at property on Wardley industrial estate in Worsley. “Engines from Atherton, Farnworth, Agecroft and Bolton along with the turntable ladder from Farnworth and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton quickly attended the scene which involved a container fire at a single storey industrial unit. “Fire crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus.
