Dozens of homes in an estate were evacuated after a police raid discovered a 'firework' this morning. Officers investigated throughout the afternoon after the discovery.
Police were called to Neville Drive, off Silver Street, in Irlam around 11am today to execute a warrant in relation to an assault.
During this raid, a 'possible explosive device' was found leading to surrounding homes being evacuated, with a 100 metre cordon put in place.
The potential explosive was found to be a firework, with residents let back into their homes a few hours later. A GMP spokesman said: "The device was identified as a firework which is why residents have been asked to go back to their homes."
