redveil had the best verse on the JPEGMAFIA/Danny Brown collaboration Scaring The Hoes, Vol. 1, so it's nice to see a partial reunion so soon after "Kingdom Hearts Key." For "black enuff," the lead single from redveil's upcoming EP playing w/fire, he teams up with fellow Maryland artist JPEG for a noisy celebration of their idiosyncrasies.
Everything about the beat lives in the red: the drums, whether acoustic or electronic, have a bully's disposition over the instrumental, and the noisy guitar noodling leaves deep fingernail scratches across your brain.
But there's something about the melodies on the hook, vocals that emerge from the fracas like a peace offering, that makes the song an entreaty for unity as much as a statement of defiance.
