The Premier League have issued statement after a controversial VAR U-turn saved Manchester United from a last-minute penalty at Everton.Referee Andy Madley pointed to the spot in added time after Ashley Young was judged to have been fouled by Harry Maguire.
But after a VAR screen review Madley overturned his decision to an incensed Goodison Park crowd as well as David Moyes. The Premier League released a statement at full time clarifying: "VAR checked the referee’s call of penalty to Everton for a challenge by Maguire on Young and deemed that no foul had been committed and recommended an on-field review.
The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball."Young was in heated debate with the officials at full time, while boos reined down from large sections of the home crowd.
Former United star Rio Ferdinand was shocked at the decision being overturned and Bruno Fernandes, speaking on TNT Sport, added: "The referee said the angle was very close from the body so it's nothing to do with that."VAR was centre stage in the first half where a four-minute delay to the game was made to review Beto's opener.
